Recently I was invited to an opportunity meeting of a very well known Team within a very well known network marketing company to evaluate their meeting format and to give them my opinion as to why their group was shrinking. I went under the condition that I could write about it on my blog as long as I changed the names to protect the innocent. (If there were any)
I”ll start with the location.
1. I wondered if my car would still be there after the meeting.
2. There were two large men at the door in blue jeans and tee shirts collecting money, that didn't know how to smile.
3. The speaker wore an old faded, wrinkled polo shirt. (I guess that explains the two men at the door)
4. The first 30 minutes were spent telling all of us that we thought like employees not business owners.
5. Less than five minutes was spent on the actual company.
6. The next 30 minutes was spent promoting tools. $10 for this meeting, $35 for that meeting, $20 for this website, $25 for this CD pack, $90 for........
After doing the quick math, I figured it would cost a couple over $200 a month, not counting travel expenses or their conventions. Which there are four per year, at an average cost of $500 per couple, per event.
Then I got to hear things like The system is foolproof. The system works. The system is the key to your success. Knowing that the speaker has been involved with this Team for years and has NEVER made a PROFIT. Then he actually said , “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.”
(I wonder if he heard that?)
Supporters of a “tool business” will proclaim that the system works. That everyone who succeeded in their business worked the system. Well, to counter that silly argument, I will maintain that every lottery winner bought a ticket. And guess what? All the people (the vast majority) who didn't win the lottery also bought a ticket. The system is similar in that the majority who participate in the system never generate the significant income that the system promoters talk about. In fact the vast majority of people who participate in the system generate losses attributed directly to the system expenses. So although there are some that are successful , there are far more who suffer losses because of the over priced teaching system.
Now, I believe in training your downline. I also believe in systems. BUT not when the system is over priced and generating profit for a select few. If you train your group for free when possible or at worst case scenario to break even, they actually have enough money to buy products. When people can afford to buy and sell products, everyone makes money. I know this sounds simple but it only works if you actually care if the people on your team make money.
Have a great and healthy day!

We met through Twitter. You posted your link to this blog. I truly enjoyed the article on "Tool System Success" and agree with your statements. One company I was in, my upline was making about $1500 a month just selling her downline co-op leads... That's just wrong.
Thanks,
~Jennifer
